Contextual Interviews
(with design practitioners)

Aalto Univeristy, PhD

This research project aimed to explore the current methods of generating ideas and the significance of physical and digital design techniques in the initial stages of the design process. During the pandemic, I conducted interviews with architectural designers across Europe and gained valuable insights on how we can integrate traditional physical practices with technology development.

During the contextual inquiry, I observed how designers use algorithmic design, automated fabrication technologies, and traditional physical methods to generate early architectural design concepts.

I had the opportunity to closely examine designers' work environments, team dynamics, and interactions with various digital tools.

During my research, I gained extensive knowledge about various visual and tactile communication tools that can be used to convey design concepts.
